In a battle of undefeated Big 12 conference rivals, the No. 1 Oklahoma Sooners take on the No. 11 Missouri Tigers on Saturday at Memorial Stadium (8 pm ET, ABC).

In NCAA Football Odds, the Sooners are a 3-point favorite.

Going 8-1 SU in the past nine, Oklahoma has dominated the head-to-head series, although the Sooners are just 5-4 against the spread. On Dec. 6, 2008, the teams last met, when the Sooners blew out the Tigers 62-21 and cashed as a 16-point home favorite. Over the over/under total of 79, went the score.

Oklahoma, in their most recent outing at home against Iowa State was a 52-0 winner. The total score went under the total, while they covered the 23-point spread as favorites.

On Saturday, Missouri beat the Texas A&M Aggies 30-9, cashing as a 3.5-point underdogs, while the total score of 39 went under the total.

Oklahoma is 3-3 ATS and 6-0 SU. Missouri is 3-2 ATS and 6-0 SU.

Oklahoma, in its last 5 games is 5-0 SU, and 5-0 SU in its last 5 games when playing Missouri. Missouri, in its last 5 games is 5-0 SU, both overall and at home.

Calgary Stampeders vs. Saskatchewan Roughriders Preview

On Friday September 17, the Saskatchewan Roughriders can’t wait to play the Calgary Stampeders. Sooner they can forget their performance in their game against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, the quicker they get on the field to play the Stampeders. The Rough Riders were held to only two points in their game against the Blue Bombers, losing 31-2.

Against the Saskatchewan Rough Riders, the Calgary Stampeders enter this game on a roll. In convincing fashion, they have won their last five games. Against the struggling Edmonton Eskimos came the three wins. For the last month, the Calgary offense has been in high gear and they have not slowed down.

To describe the Roughriders, inconsistent is the best word. It is tough to figure out which team will show up, they are 6-4 heading into this game and from week to week. As the team leader, Darian Durant, quarterback for the Saskatchewan Rough riders is also inconsistent. Durant has thrown for 2,927 yards, 14 interceptions and 11 touchdowns. Durant is the second leading rusher with 356 yards rushing and he is not afraid to leave the pocket and run for daylight.

Than the Rough Riders, the Calgary offense is much more diverse. Calgary has a rushing threat in Joffrey Reynolds who has racked up 851 yards on the ground to this point in the season, aside from their quarterback Henry Burris. Three of Burris’ receivers have over 500 yards receiving to this point and he likes to spread the ball around.

Minnesota Vikings vs. New Orleans Saints: Preview

The New Orleans Saints and the Minnesota Vikings will kick off the season with what may be one of the best games that this season will have to offer. In the NFC last season, these two teams were two of the best teams and both have high hopes for the 2010 season.

The Saints went to distance, took home a Super Bowl victory and they are coming off a dream season. Last season, an offense that was historically prolific, was displayed by the Saints. The quarterback of the Saints, Drew Brees was an excellent quarterback and leader for the Saints.

Running game of the Saints is an interesting one. In Reggie Bush, the Saints have a big name running back, but he has never produced the way he was expected to. The Saints, in their offense, do not use him as a featured option, but they do use him to keep the other team honest. His speed causes the other team to keep an eye on him at all times, though he does not produce big numbers.

Surrounding Brett Favre, the Vikings have finally ended the drama that continued throughout the offseason. With whether or not Favre was going to return, he was on and off, but he has finally decided to return. Favre will be missing Rice, top receiver for the foreseeable future, is one thing to pay attention to this year.

This season, Adrian Peterson will be expected to carry a lot of the load. He will still be seen as one of the best backs in the year entering the season, although last year he had a down season.

NCAA College Football: Eastern Illinois vs. Iowa

The Eastern Illinois Panthers will take on the Iowa Hawkeyes on Saturday September 4th. This game will be the season opener for each of these teams. They will both have the opportunity to start off the season right as they square off at noon eastern time.

Iowa will certainly be favored entering this matchup. Iowa will enter the season with a ranking of 9th in the nation. They posted an impressive season in 2009 with a record of 11-2. Truth be told, Iowa has never really been seen as an offensive squad. They were only the 86th best scoring team in the nation in 2009. This doesn’t sound so great, but offense isn’t what keeps this team going.

Last season the Hawkeyes allowed just over 15 points a game. This is a great total. They managed to go 6-2 in the Big Ten and even went 2-1 against top 25 teams. The Hawkeyes have the type of defense that will keep them in any game. They are able to keep the game under control even when the offense just isn’t clicking.

Eastern Illinois went 8-4 last season. They are a solid team, but certainly not well known. They come from a smaller conference (the OVC) and haven’t really been tried and tested against top teams in the nation much. Iowa will be a big challenge for the Panthers.

Eastern Illinois will have a chance if they can remain in striking distance. Iowa may have some issues getting the offense on track like they did last year. A couple of forced turnovers could give them a shot at a huge upset.

Marshall vs. Ohio State Buckeyes: NCAAF Preview

On Sept. 2, Marshall and Ohio State will square off against each other. They will show each other what they are made of, that Thursday, the opening day of the 2010 NCAA College Football season.

Ohio State is the top contender in the NCAA year in and year out and it is a powerhouse team. Than in years past, this year they are even more heavily favored. They have the returning players necessary to make things happen this year and last season they had a great year.

For the Ohio State squad, Terrelle Pryor will be a huge factor. For the Buckeyes last season, Pryor was a terrific player. In the passing category, he managed to lead them but also in rushing yards. To defend against his versatility will be tough.

Even if the offensive line is struggling, the beauty of a player like Pryor is that, he will be able to make things happen. For the team in 2010, his ability to make things happen in and out of the pocket will be a huge plus. For a Heisman Trophy, he looks to be a top contender, if he can keep his interceptions down. The Buckeyes should have a great shot at winning the National Title and they will certainly be the favorites to win their conference if all goes well.

In this game, Marshall will be the underdogs. They are a well coached team can go a long way, although they are not as talented or athletic. They may be able to sneak one away, if Marshall can keep this game close. For the whole season, a big win like this could fuel their team.

Alouettes @ Argonauts Preview: CFL

The Toronto Argonauts against the Montreal Alouettes is always a match up that brings out the best in both teams. Between these two, the first game was disappointing. At the hands of a faster and more organized Montreal attack, Toronto took a beating. Montreal gave Toronto a rallying cry as they meet on Toronto’s home turf this weekend and dealt Toronto their second loss of the CFL season.

For Toronto, Cleo Lemon remains the quarterback, despite his pedestrian performance to this point of the season. Lemon’s 1198 yards passing, along with five interceptions and four touchdowns are not instilling fear into many CFL secondaries, including Montreal’s.

It is almost unfair to compare Montreal’s quarterback Anthony Calvillo to Cleo Lemon. Both quarterbacks are in different stratospheres. Calvillo has already thrown for 1,858 yards in six games and his touchdown to interception ratio is 12 touchdowns to two interceptions. Two weekends ago, the quarterback advantage was exploited in the first regular season meeting between these two teams. In the pre season, the two also met and Montreal won 23-31 in Montreal.

Action will ensue from the opening kickoff and neither team is defensive stalwarts. Don’t look for this game to be as one sided, although the score of the last game in Montreal was 41-10 in Montreal’s favor. In this game, Cleo Lemon is the key. Toronto could pull this game off and even up their record with Montreal, if he can throw for 250-275 yards and can keep the ball out of the Montreal corners hands.

NCAA College Football Season Preview: Iowa Hawkeyes

The Iowa Hawkeyes football team represents perhaps the Big Ten’s biggest threat to end Ohio State’s reign as the conference’s best team. They are retaining several key defensive players and have a talented wide receiver duo that could be one of the best in the country.

Defense will be Iowa’s primary strength, with all four starting defensive linemen returning from last season. Included in that bunch is defensive end Adrian Clayborn. Clayborn was selected to the Big Ten’s All-Conference First-Team last season and he is a preseason candidate to win several national awards.

Ricky Stanzi will be a third-year starter, and despite unspectacular statistics, he has proven that he knows how to win. He is 18-4 for his career as a starter. His primary targets will be wide receivers Derrell Johnson-Koulianos and Marvin McNutt. Johnson-Koulianos needs 30 receptions and 400 yards to become Iowa’s career leader in receptions and receiving yards. McNutt led Iowa with an average of 19.8 yards per reception and eight touchdowns last year

Iowa’s biggest question mark going into the season is at offensive line. It will feature three new starters and will lack the bulk of Iowa’s offensive lines in seasons past.

Iowa may be a little too inexperienced on the offensive line to be able to dethrone Ohio State, but there is little doubt that they will be among the Big Ten’s elite teams in 2010. They face Ohio State on November 20 in a game that could very well decide who wins the Big Ten.

NFL Season Preview: Dallas Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys are geared up and ready to take on the new season. This season will have a special significance for the Cowboys and the state of Texas. The Super Bowl will be taking place in Texas this year and the Cowboys seek to take the opportunity to make this Super Bowl a home game.

The Cowboys are without doubt bound to be one of the top passing teams in the NFL. The Cowboys are led by Tony Romo at quarterback. Tony Romo is a pro bowl caliber quarterback with the tools around him to put up huge numbers. The Cowboys sport one of the best groups of receivers in the game.

The Cowboys have three receivers that are dangerous and will draw a lot of the attention of the opponent’s defense. Roy Williams is a great athlete and Miles Austin produced big numbers last year in Dallas.

This year the Cowboys picked up Dez Bryant in the draft. He is known for his top end talent and only slipped to the Cowboys in the draft because of his character issues. If the Cowboys can keep him under control they will have a trio of receivers that will be unrivaled by any team in the NFL.

The running game could stand to improve, but Marion Barber did a decent job of keeping balance in the attack last season for the Cowboys. If Barber is able to step up to the next level this season the Cowboys will have a balanced attack that may be unstoppable in 2010. The Cowboys will surely be the favorites to take the NFC East Division.

Calgary Stampeders Take on Struggling BC Lions

The BC Lions will host the Calgary Stampeders on August 7th. The match up provides an interesting clash of two teams heading in different directions. The Calgary Stampeders are winning close games and winning games they should win.

The BC Lions have had a rough run of luck and they are struggling to find their identity. Travis Lulay is working his way into the lineup as the starting quarterback and is in search of the confidence all great quarterbacks possess.

The Calgary Stampeders signal caller, Henry Burris, an import player, possesses the confidence to lead a team that is first in the CFL standings and is looking unstoppable. Burris is a strong presence in the pocket and he is not afraid to leave the pocket and run down field if he can’t find an open receiver.

Receiver Romby Bryant and non-import running back Jon Cornish are a major key to Burris and the Calgary Stampeders success. Both players are explosive offensive juggernauts and open up the field for Burris. Cornish leads a solid rushing game for Calgary that allows Burris the flexibility to use play action to keep the defense honest.

Th BC Lions Jamal Robertson started the season with a spectacular 168 yards rushing and if he can ever get back to running the ball with the effectiveness he showed in the Edmonton game the Lions season may have a chance to turn around. Lulay will need a solid and healthy running back to open up his offense and win their first home game.

Edmonton Eskimos Looking for 1st CFL Win Against BC Lions

A Canadian Football League rematch of the BC Lions against the Edmonton Eskimos features two struggling teams Friday July 30th. In their first game, also played in Edmonton July 4th, the BC Lions beat an uninspired Edmonton team 25-10. The victory was the BC Lions only win in a dismal start to their CFL season.

The second game between these two will come down to a match up of quarterbacks. Travis Gulay is the up and coming quarterback for the BC Lions, while Ricky Ray is an eight year veteran of the CFL and has thrown for over 5,000 yards three times in eight years.

The BC Lions, Travis Gulay has provided some spark but is not much of threat to run. Gulay is expected to develop into a premier quarterback in the CFL despite his inability to bolt from the pocket. Gulay has had his difficulties finding the end zone this year but the BC Lions coaching staff is behind him.

Ricky Ray of the Edmonton Eskimos is also having a rough start to his season but he has racked up 1,090 yards in his first four games. Ray has also had a tough time finding the end zone this season and the 0-4 start has fallen squarely on his shoulders.

This may be Edmonton’s best chance to win a game in the first half of the season. After losing to the BC Lions in the first game 25-10, Ricky Ray and his Edmonton teammates should have the motivation to pull off a home victory.
